How Russian abacus works
The Russian abacus works in a very similar way to the traditional European abacus. With 9 beads per row and 10 rows, it is used to teach math lessons in schools, helping children to visualize math problems and learn math using an abacus, so they can better understand mathematics.
Using the Russian abacus
The Russian abacus is still in use today in Russia and some neighboring countries, where it was introduced by the Soviet education system, and is also used by mathematics enthusiasts to practice calculation and mental arithmetic. Some math masters use it to easily solve complex mathematical problems, such as multiplying large numbers. The Russian abacus is made up of vertical rods representing decimals and beads representing individual numbers.Teaching the abacus has many advantages:
Mathematics is easier to learn with an abacus.
It develops memory, as the position of the beads on the rods must be memorized.
Develops children’s mathematical skills
It develops children’s mathematical awareness, using visual symbols to represent mathematics.
